Our slogan, “Your Health. Your Rights” expresses what we want to achieve – to have a positive impact on the overall health and rights of hard to reach and vulnerable populations. We do this through advocacy, skills development and mentorship, knowledge management, research, and award-winning innovations in low-cost technology. Gateway Health Institute was established in South Africa in 2014 and has, since then, won five international awards, three of which involved UN agencies such as The UN Foundation (Every Woman, Every Child), UNAIDS, and the UN Special Envoy for Health MDGs and Malaria.
Our core strengths lie in designing tech-assisted interventions, building partnerships, and strengthening networks with a strong focus on health, rights, and nutrition/food security – three indivisible elements of human well-being. Recognizing the ubiquity of mobile phones is the first step in ensuring successful outcomes and impact of our projects and programs. This was true before the Covid19 pandemic but is even more so now during this time. Our team of experts is led by Dr. Coenie Louw, who describes himself as “somewhat of an innovator”. We pride ourselves on being a small team achieving big things by working smartly.
