Modern Military Association of America
Andy Blevins serves as the Executive Director for the Modern Military Association of America, the nation’s largest association for LGBTQ and HIV+ service members, veterans, and their families—our nation’s modern military community. Prior to this role, he served in the Obama White House, with the Oregon Department of Justice, and with several nationally based advocative non-profits. A proud veteran, Andy served in the United States Navy as the Information Assurance Officer for the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans, overseeing more than 256 customer commands. He received his law and business degrees from Willamette University and a Writing degree from the University of Colorado. In his spare time, Andy enjoys spending time with his partner and fur-kid, aptly named “Sir Reginald, the Earl of Puppydom.”
The Rainbow Shield program was created to bridge the gap in culturally resilient services for the LGBTQ and HIV+ military and veteran community. At its core, the program educates community service providers and advocates for equitable care and services through initial certification training. The goal of the Rainbow Shield program is to end negative experiences in service and advocacy settings based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and serostatus for service members, veterans, and their families. We recognize that standards of care and community needs are always changing. New developments in research and best practices are constantly yielding new insights that we incorporate into required continued learning education sessions that are offered throughout the year.
