Project Description

FreeCap Financial is a startup data company providing socially responsible investing criteria and data to investors. We rate companies based on how they positively or negatively impact mass incarceration. Our ratings and datasets empower investors to divest from the network of companies who exploit the prison system and instead, invest in companies that support formerly incarcerated workers. FreeCap’s ratings define leadership criteria for how companies can be allies to currently and formerly incarcerated workers—and gives investors the transparency they need to hold companies accountable for doing so. At scale, our approach can successfully defund the prison industrial complex. Over the course of the fellowship, we plan to rate 3,000 companies and pilot our database with a handful of strategic partners.
